Support Us

Veteran Sport Australia is run by a charity and public benevolent institution and donations are welcome.

Veteran and Competitor Scott Seccombe talks about why support helps.

Service in the Australian Defence Force requires intense physical and mental training and a high level of physical fitness. It is not surprising that passion for sport and physical activity unites many of our veterans.

Unfortunately, Defence is also a high-risk occupation and veterans can leave the service with injuries and illnesses.

Whether overcoming trauma or disability, wanting to be healthy and connect with others, or looking to excel in elite competition, sport can help.

Sport gives veterans of all ages and abilities the chance to improve their health and quality of life, make new friends and test themselves against the best.

Your donation enables us to support more veterans and their families to get active.

How we use funding

We purchased and supplied 10 sports wheelchairs for the Australian Invictus team to use during the last two Invictus Games. This allowed athletes to try new challenges within the training environment and demonstrate their teamwork and team cohesion abilities.

Since 2011, RSL WBI has also been subsidising the cost of veterans attending the Whistler Adaptive Sports Camp in Canada and other overseas events such as the Warrior Games.

Additional funds will help us purchase equipment, send more veterans to sporting events around the world and pay for our veterans who cannot afford to participate in sport without financial assistance.

Read Jamie Tanner’s Invictus story

Being reintroduced to winter sports in a controlled environment has given me the knowledge and confidence to be able to participate in a range of sports that I previously wouldn't have had the mental strength to do. Not just being limited to snow sports, but all sports that I'm physically able to participate in. This experience has given me the motivation to begin participating again in activities, sports and hobbies that had previously been such a huge part of my life.

The opportunity to meet and develop friendships with people from other nations has also been a great step in aiding me with the recovery of my psychological wounds. Understanding and realising that regardless of what nation you may be from, we all suffer similar stresses and even though we are potentially oceans apart we have a lot more in common than one would think. Finally understanding that mental health conditions don't discriminate and everybody is susceptible regardless of which country you are from, gender, race, age or religion, has played a major role in me becoming more accepting of my own conditions.
